Tonse Alliance Secures Landslide Victory in Petauke Parliamentary By-Election

Petauke, Zambia – The Tonse Alliance has emerged victorious in the highly contested Petauke Parliamentary By-Election, with its candidate, Simon Banda, securing the seat in a resounding triumph. The victory marks a significant milestone for the alliance and further solidifies its growing political influence ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Despite alleged attempts by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), under its chairperson Mwangala Zalomous, to delay the official announcement of the results, the Tonse Alliance leadership and campaign team remained steadfast, maintaining a vigilant presence throughout the process. It was not until around 10:00 hours that the ECZ finally declared Simon Banda as the duly elected Member of Parliament, a moment that sent the Tonse Alliance supporters into jubilation across Petauke.

Following the announcement, PF and Tonse Alliance Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda led a victory procession through the Petauke Central Business District, joined by other alliance leaders and throngs of enthusiastic residents. The celebrations showcased the unwavering support for the alliance and its candidate, as people cheered, danced, and chanted slogans affirming their commitment to the political movement.

Addressing the jubilant crowd, Nakacinda reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to change, good governance, and the well-being of Zambians. He emphasized that the victory was not just for Petauke but a signal of the people's trust in the Tonse Alliance as a credible alternative to the current administration.

Furthermore, the alliance used the occasion to reiterate its position on the 2026 presidential race, confirming that former President Edgar Lungu remains its chosen presidential candidate. This declaration comes amidst growing speculation and political maneuvering as the country inches closer to the next general elections.

The Petauke by-election outcome is widely seen as a political statement, underscoring the shifting dynamics in Zambia’s political landscape. The Tonse Alliance’s ability to mobilize grassroots support and counter perceived electoral injustices speaks volumes about its readiness to challenge the ruling party in future elections.

As celebrations continue, political analysts suggest that the Petauke victory could be a precursor to a larger political wave in 2026. With Lungu at the helm and a growing support base, the Tonse Alliance is positioning itself as a formidable force in Zambian politics.

For now, the people of Petauke have spoken—and they have chosen change.
