In a bold move to enhance efficiency and strengthen governance, President Hakainde Hichilema has announced sweeping changes in both ministerial and permanent secretary appointments. The reshuffle, effective immediately, underscores the President’s commitment to aligning his leadership team with the nation’s strategic priorities and ensuring improved service delivery.
The reshuffling comes at a crucial moment as President Hichilema intensifies his focus on revitalizing the country’s leadership apparatus. In a statement released by his Principal Private Secretary, Bradford Machila, the President confirmed the termination of key appointments, which includes high-profile figures across several provinces and ministries.
Key Changes in Government Leadership
The reshuffle saw the termination of the following officials:
- Honourable Henry Sikazwe MP, Minister for Muchinga Province
- Honourable Gregory Ngowani MP, Government Deputy Chief Whip
- Mr. Henry Mukungule, Permanent Secretary for Muchinga Province
- Mr. Robert Kamalata, Permanent Secretary for Lusaka Province
- Mr. Mighty Mumba, Permanent Secretary for Luapula Province
- Mr. Ringo Zulu, Controller of Internal Audit, Ministry of Finance and National Planning
In his announcement, President Hichilema expressed his gratitude to the terminated officials for their service, acknowledging their contributions to the government and wishing them the best in future endeavors.
A Fresh Wave of Appointments
To ensure continued progress and effective governance, the President also unveiled a new set of leaders stepping into key positions. Among the fresh appointments are:
- Honourable Njavwa Simutowe MP, Minister for Muchinga Province
- Honourable Nason Musonda MP, Minister for Luapula Province
- Honourable Likando Mufalali MP, Government Deputy Chief Whip
In a strategic move to bolster the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, several new Permanent Secretaries have also been appointed:
- Mr. Mulele M Mulele, Permanent Secretary for Economic Management & Finance
- Ms. Mwaka Mukebesa, Permanent Secretary for Budget & Economic Affairs
- Ms. Prudence Kaoma, Permanent Secretary for Planning & Administration
Additionally, new leadership has been appointed to various provincial posts:
- Mr. Lazarous Mwanza, Permanent Secretary for Copperbelt Province
- Mrs. Prudence Chinama, Permanent Secretary for Luapula Province
- Rev. Mathews Chilekwa, Permanent Secretary for Muchinga Province
Key Transfers Across the Permanent Secretariat
Along with these new appointments, President Hichilema has also made significant transfers within the Permanent Secretary ranks to further streamline the operations of the government:
- Mr. Maambo Hamaundu moves from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to the Ministry of Defence
- Mr. Norman Chipakupaku is reassigned as DMMU Coordinator in the Office of the Vice President
- Dr. Gabriel Pollen will now serve in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development
- Mr. Patrick Mucheleka transitions from Cabinet Office to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources
- Mr. Joe Kalusa takes on a new role in Lusaka Province, transitioning from Cabinet Office
